The Alcoholmeter serves for measuring the alcohol content in pure distillates. It is used above all after distillation to check the alcohol content and to dilute the distillate precisely to drinking strength.
Important properties
- Measuring range: 0 to 100 %vol alcohol
- Total length: 30.5 cm
- Features: with thermometer and correction scale
- Suitable for: pure distillates and alcohol-water mixtures
- Not suitable for: wine, beer, mash or liqueur
Important note on measurement
An alcoholmeter measures the density of a liquid. Dissolved substances such as sugar, extract substances, original wort or acids distort the result. Precise measurements are therefore only possible on pure distillates. For wine, beer, mash or liqueur, the Alcohol Analysis Set is more suitable.
With the alcoholmeter, the spacing of the scale divisions becomes larger as the alcohol content increases, i.e. the measurement becomes more precise the higher the alcohol content. With a refractometer for alcohol this is exactly the opposite, i.e. spirits strength or higher can only be measured with sufficient precision using an alcoholmeter.
Recommended accessories
For a clean measurement, a 100 ml measuring cylinder is recommended. The alcohol hydrometer must be able to float freely and must not rest against the bottom or the wall. At least approx. 80 ml of sample is required for this.
